UDC2500 Software Option Instructions

 Cover

Instructions for adding new software options to UDC2500, UDC3200, or UDC3500 Controllers.

In order to add new software options to the controller you will have to get the Option Code from the controller and report it to the factory (along with the Model and Serial Number of the controller). The Option Code is obtained using a hidden key sequence.

Perform the following procedure to get the Option Code from the controller:

1)Turn off the power to the controller
2)Press and hold both the Function and Increment keys on the UDC key pad
3)Turn on the power again while still holding the Function and Increment keys. Release the keys when you see the prompt “UDC UPDATE” on the display.
4)Press the Function key once. The prompt “DISABLE RESTORE” should appear.
5)Press the Increment key until the prompt “OPTN RESTORE” appears (this should require two presses of the Increment key).
6)Press the Function key once. The prompt “ENTER 1” should appear on the lower display. Write down the number that appears in the upper display. This is the first part of the three- part Option Code.
7)Press the Function key again. The prompt “ENTER 2” should appear on the lower display. Write down the number that appears in the upper display. This is the second part of the three-part Option Code.
8)Press the Function key again. The prompt “ENTER 3” should appear on the lower display. Write down the number that appears in the upper display. This is the third (and last) part of the three-part Option Code.
9)Press the Function key one more time. The controller will re-start and then go into its normal online operating mode.
10)Recorder the Model & Serial number of the unit.

The factory will generate an Upgrade Code that is specific to each controller. Entering the Upgrade Code into the controllers will activate the new software options. The Upgrade Code is installed using a hidden key sequence.

Perform the following procedure to enter the Upgrade Code into the controller:

1)Turn off the power to the controller
2)Press and hold both the Function and Increment keys on the UDC key pad
3)Turn on the power again while still holding the Function and Increment keys. Release the keys when you see the prompt “UDC UPDATE” on the display.
4)Press the Function key once. The prompt “DISABLE RESTORE” should appear.
5)Press the Increment key until the prompt “OPTN RESTORE” appears (this should require two presses of the Increment key).
6)Use the Increment and Decrement keys to change the number in the upper display to a value equal to the first part of the three-part Upgrade Code. Press the Function key after you have entered the desired value.
7)The prompt “ENTER 2” should appear on the lower display after you have pressed the Function key. Use the Increment and Decrement keys to change the number in the upper display to a value equal to the second part of the three-part Upgrade Code. Press the Function key after you have entered the desired value.
8)The prompt “ENTER 3” should appear on the lower display after you have pressed the Function key. Use the Increment and Decrement keys to change the number in the upper display to a value equal to the third part of the three-part Upgrade Code. Press the Function key after you have entered the desired value. The controller will re-start when you press the Function key.
9)Wait for the controller to complete the Cold Start. The new option(s) are now activated.

UDC6300 How To Get Feed Foward Operation Instructions

DtiCorp.com - Industrial HVAC Equipment and Controls

Feedfoward control is a strategy of implementing a control action based on some known disturbance to minimize the effect of that disturbance on the process variable. The Feedfoward effect bypasses the closed loop PID algorithm.

As it's name implies, the disturbance is measured and transmitted, i.e. Feedfoward, ahead of the PID algorithm to add in an Output effect that is summed with the closed loop PID algorithm. The summation of the closed loop PID output and the Feedfoward equation is then transmitted to the final control output.

Feedfoward Requirements:

- The disturbance must be measurable
- You must know in how much that you wish to move to Output based upon the disturbance, i.e. Knowledge of the process.
- You must know in what direction to move the Output based upon the disturbance.

Feedfoward control can result in closer control by eliminating the influence long before closed loop PID can, because the PID loop can not react until after the error is measured. Since the effect of Feedfoward is a "Open Loop system", i.e. no feedback, it is never perfect and it's effect should be used with caution.

UDC3500 How to switch from Remote to Local SP

 loading

Switching between a Remote & Local Setpoint with a Digital Input.

Solution: Specify a UDC 3500 with a Digital Input Option.

When a digital input is configured for To LSP, the UDC will switch from Remote SP to a Local SP with a contact or switch closure.

Configuration:

1.Setup – Control – RSP SRC is set to Input 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, IN ALG 1 or IN ALG 2.

2.Setup – Option – DIG INP 1 2, 3 or 4 is set to LSP

Operation:

1.Make sure that the Digital Input Switch is open and Remote SP is selected

2.Set the desired setpoint for Local SP using the Lower Display & arrow keys.

3.With the Digital Input Switch closed, SP will be displayed on the Lower display.

4.When the Digital Input Switch is re-opened the bar next to the left of the RSP will light, and the Remote SP will be the controlling setpoint.

Notes:

1.If the Setpoint Select is enabled, then someone can override the Digital Input by pressing the SP Select key.

A suggested correction is, prior to doing step 3 in the operation section, go to Tuning Group and set the Lockout to None. Keep pressing the Function key until SP SEL appears in the lower display. Set the Upper Display to DISABLE.

With the Setpoint Select set to disable, the unit can not be switched to Local SP by the keyboard.

2.A different set of Tuning constants can be selected when Local SP is selected. If Two sets of Tuning constants are selected under the Control section, then by using the DIG 1 CMB or DIG 2 COMB set to +PID 2 then PID set 2 tuning values will be used when SP is selected.
