Tips for Using Your Thermostat Wisely

Tips For Using Your Thermostat Wisely

Incorrect use of thermostats is one of the major causes of air conditioning problems.
A thermostat is a simple switch: it turns the air conditioning on and off at the set temperature. Setting it to a lower temperature will not make the system work any better. REMEMBER if the air conditioning is running, setting the thermostat lower will not cool the building faster!
Setting the temperature below the normal comfort level will lead to higher electric bills! Setting the thermostat at extremely low temperatures will often cause major problems. The system will continue to run through the night to try and satisfy the low temperature setting. This, together with the lower outside temperatures, will cause system malfunctions including coils freezing and systems “tripping” off. These problems can result in having to call a service technician to restore correct system operation. This may result in the system being off for some time and additional costs to you that may have been avoided by setting the thermostat correctly.

TIPS FOR TROUBLE FREE OPERATION
▪ Set cooling temperature no lower than 70 °F
▪ Switch off system at night or set temperature up
▪ Restrict access to thermostats
▪ Consider installation of programmable thermostats
▪ Ensure that filters are clean
▪ Have system checked by a professional regularly
▪ Report any unusual sounds, smells, or leaks immediately
